EVELYN E. KIEFFER
Evelyn E. (Ellefson) Kieffer, 94, of Faribault, died on March 22, 2010, at District One Hospital in Faribault.
Evelyn was born in Willmar, Minnesota, on January 28, 1916. She was graduated from Willmar High School in 1933 and earned a B.A. from St. Olaf College, Northfield, in 1937. She was always very thankful for the opportunity to attend college during the Great Depression. She loved every minute of her time at St. Olaf and continued to visit the campus whenever possible over the years. After graduation, she obtained a teaching job in Dawson, MN, where she taught biology and algebra and supervised the GAA (Girls Athletic Association). Evie married Gerald L. Kieffer on August 16, 1940 in Willmar, MN. In 1947, the family moved from Dawson to Faribault when Gerald accepted a teaching position at Shattuck School. In the mid-1950s, Evie resumed her teaching career at Shattuck when she joined the faculty to teach algebra. She holds the distinction of being the first female teacher at Shattuck School. Later, Evie also taught mathematics at St. Mary’s Hall.
Evelyn was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Monday Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and numerous bridge clubs. She enjoyed being with people, traveling, and playing card games, especially bridge.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann (Stephen) Bragg of Osprey, FL, and Jean (Mark) Cushman of Monticello, MN, and son Gregory (Kathryn) Kieffer of Faribault; and two grandchildren, Chase and Katrina Cushman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and her three brothers: Randolph, Clarence, and Willard.
A memorial service will be held at First English Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 24, at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ellefson-Kieffer Scholarship Fund at St. Olaf College, Northfield, or to First English Lutheran Church, Faribault.
The family wishes to thank the many wonderful staff members at the Milestone Memory Care unit for taking such great care of Evie for the past 14 months.
Dear Greg and Kathy and Anne and Steve, your family will always be a special part of growing up in Faribault. All the holidays we spent together and all the bridge games we witnessed and even participated in. Our parents shared such wonderful times together and they are all missed, every day. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Your mother was such a beautiful person and will always remember the visits I had with her and your father, they both have a special place in my heart. It was a privilege to know them. They were both were very special people.
To the Kieffer family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Your Mother was like a second Mother to me and I have many fond memories of growing up together and being in your household, sitting with all of you at Shattuck during Summer school times at that "important" table! Your Mother was very special and loved by all. She always had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. She will always be remembered. Janey
