CHRISTA MORTLAND

Christa Mortland, age 68, of Faribault died peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Faribault Senior Living surrounded by her family.

A private interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.  Cards of sympathy for the Mortland family may be sent to the Boldt Funeral Home, 300 Prairie Avenue, Faribault, MN 55021.

Arrangements are being completed by the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault.

Christa was born on June 25, 1943 in Landshut, Germany.  She married Delbert Mortland on September 25, 1965 in Weng, Germany. Together, they purchased an old schoolhouse, which they renovated and called home for many years.

Christa was formerly employed by Basilleo's and the Faribault Regional Center, both of Faribault, and the Dakota County Technical College of Rosemount. Christa's desire to serve the Lord was her greatest passion, and she lived so that others saw the Lord through her. She was a true and faithful friend and befriended many over the years. Her love of children was evident in the many hours spent in the church nursery, young mother's group, and throughout her family and community. Christa found great pleasure in helping others, whether it was serving at a local food pantry or visiting others at a nursing home. She kept active in her church and with her friends and strived to make each person she encountered feel special. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband Delbert; three children, Daniel Mortland of Faribault, Dana (and Brian) Galbraith of Windham, ME and Dean (and Amanda) Mortland of Norfolk, NE; six grandchildren, Chad Mortland, Emily, Tyler and Andrew Galbraith, Braiden and Carson Mortland; three sisters, Theresa Wagner of Faribault, Maria Schmid of Hoermannsdorf, Germany and Elizabeth Wimmer of Hoermannsdorf, Germany; one sister-in-law, Marianne Sturm of Weng, Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Theresia (Hof Bauer) Sturm and one brother, Johann "Hans" Sturm.

Memories

Dear Family of Christa, Christa was a very dear and precious friend to me! She was a real encouragement to me and others especially when going through difficult times!! Her favorite saying was ~ "with God all things are possible!!" She always thought the best of everybody and was one of the kindest~ sweetest persons I've ever known!!! She was a real blessing to me!! When Christa and I went to the nursing home to see Dorothy Thomas we would sing together and she would be worshiping God from her whole heart!! Dorothy just loved her as did many!!! She truly was a Woman after Gods heart!! I can visualize her dancing on the streets of gold with Jesus up in heaven at her heavenly home!! I will always treasure those special memories of her!1 So thankful to God that she was a part of my life!! Will so miss her!! She loved each one of you so much and prayed for you often!! Dave and I will continue to keep you in our prayers!! God be with you!! Sharla and Dave Steuck

My Dearest Christa... You have been one of the most inspiring people that I have had in my life. You were like an aunt to me. I remember many times walking into church and she would always have that sweet, sweet smile on her face. It was very contagious. She loved my children with a dear passion and would always offer to watch them in the nursery. The kids just loved her! She always had a hug to offer. She will be greatly missed! Love you Christa!!!

Memories

"Well done my good and faithful servant" Wow... those words are all I can think of when I think of Christa. Such a kind, generous, joyful, faithful and, spirit filled person. She will be missed greatly here on earth but, what a Peace all should have in knowing that her Legacy is one that is amazing!! This is a little something I found on a DaySpring card "Yesterday's Influence, Today's memories, Tomorrow's reunion... Holding you close in thought and prayer as you walk through this time. Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies'" John 11:25 NIV. Love, Missy & Jake Caron

Memories

Heaven received a special angel the day that Christa Mortland arrived at it's doorstep. I was blessed to work with Christa and Theresa while I was a teenager that needed a bit of guidance on more than one occasion. Lucky for me both Christa and Theresa would make no bones about setting me straight when I was misdirected. Over the years I have looked back fondly knowing that my life had truly been enriched by their presence. Christa was such a giving person, always sharing her belief in the good of others and deeply committed to her relationship with the Lord. I am blessed that she shared a part of her journey with me.

Memories

To Christa's family--Christa had such an impact on me personally as a colleague at Dakota County Technical College. I have missed her since she (and Theresa) left and treasured each opportunity to see her after that. When she worked at the college and I met her in the hall, she always inquired as to how I was, lent support, and never went on her way without an uplifting word. Always...without fail. I have spoken of her faith-deep, positive attitude to many others. She demonstrated the beauty in committing to whatever you are doing fully, with conviction, grace and gratitude. My prayers go out to you all...Christa was a true gem. Kelly Murtaugh

Memories

My heart is reaching out to you in sympathy and prayer. Christa was a dear friend that I shared much of my life with. We were there for each other through many good and some hard times. We had the blessing of a trip to Germany, worked together at Basileo's, shared in Bible studies, and the joy of the birth of Dean. I have many memories of a woman who loved the Lord with her whole heart. There was always a gentle strength about Christa ... and year after year it continued to inspire me. Your loved one will always be as close as a memory and the God of all comfort as close as a prayer. Ava Williams

Memories

Dear Dana, Dan, Dean and Families, My deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear mother. She (and all of you) were such special neighbors to me and my family growing up, and I hold so many special memories of her to this day--some 35 years later. I will always remember her making me cinnamon toast as a yummy snack, getting to go visit her at Basilleo's with you guys (watching her toss the pizza dough in the air!) and the kindness she always showed to me when I was over to play with you, Dana, or stay for dinner. My absolute favorite memories, though, came from the times we got your mom together with my Grandma Reuvers, and just sat in the living room and listened to them visit in German. I always listened in awe, wanting to learn the language so badly from those early years onward. What a wonderful, kind and sweet woman. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Love, Julie (Reuvers) Christensen, with Joe, Noë and Brooks
