Katherine, "Kathy" Hugh of Faribault, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at home with her family, after a formidable cancer challenge.

Memorial services will be held at the Congregational Church of Faribault UCC on March 5, at 1:30 pm with Reverend Jan Bodin officiating. A time of gathering will follow in the Congregational Church Parish House.

Arrangements are being completed by the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault.

Katherine Grace was born to Lester Marvin and Gladys (Pedersen) Hugh on December 10, 1948 in Key West, FL. She graduated from Hopkins High School and Mankato State College. Kathy later completed her doctorate degree at the University of Minnesota. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving sister and aunt, dedicated educator and coach, adventure traveler, staunch environmentalist, accomplished gardener and cook, and collector of "treasures". Tak for alt, Katherine!

She is survived by her sister Karen (Don) Vogt; one uncle, Max Hugh of San Diego, CA; one nephew, Dale Vogt; one niece, Maren Vogt all of Staples; lifetime friend, Rosemary Foley of Minneapolis; cousins, and her canine companion, Cozy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Gladys Hugh.

Kudos to Dr. Robert Dalton and the infusion nurses of Mayo Health System, Owatonna and the Faribault Area Hospice. Your expertise and compassionate care was exceptional!

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Congregational Church of Faribault, Faribault Area Hospice, or the Nature Conservancy.

Memories

I had Kathy as a phy-ed teacher in high school. She taught a class on life-long fitness. We canoed, bowled, went cross-county skiing and archery. She was an outdoors person and athlete without being a jock. It made someone like me who was less than athletically gifted, feel like I could still participate! To this day, I enjoy doing those activities (and then some!) She always had a kind and encouraging word for anyone and a great sense of humor. She left a lasting impression on me and I am grateful for her influence.

Memories

Kathy was our backyard neighbor, literally over the fence. We got to know each other over our dogs- her Cozy and my Lily. They would play and growl and we would talk about the neighborhood goings-on.Kathy had a wonderful knack for gardening. Her space was like a piece of heaven. She was unafraid to tackle a project or to stand up for what she felt was just. I loved her spunk with which she lived her life day to day.Lily and I will so miss our walks that would result in knocking on Kathy's door to see if she and Cozy could come outside for a visit so we could peruse what was growing around Kathy's beautiful home. It is my hope that her property will be cherished and appreciated for the lovely setting it is.... and that the next owners not devastate Kathy's beautiful efforts for their financial gain or other reason. Lily and I are so fortunate to have known Kathy and Cozy and will have only fond memories of that place and our times together.

Memories

Kathy worked for us here at Therapywerks for the last six years or more. She always walked to work. I had known her as a teacher years ago and my girls had her for a phy ed teacher. But working with her for the last six years was a great blessing to me and I really got to know her. I miss her very much. I see her everywhere here. In her red chair at the front desk, folding laundry, chatting with patients etc. Kathy was always up for any job no matter what it might be. She just liked to be busy. Kathy was always cheerful, never complained, and a delight to know and work with. We heard a lot about Karen, Don , Maren and Dale. I know you are all very close and I can't imagine how much she will be missed. It was an honor to know her and she will be remembered by us forever as a faithful and kind friend. Beth Hougan ( I know I speak for Paul, Amy, and Francine also)

Memories

Our sympathy to Kathy's family, she was a kindly friendly neighbor. She offered us a spot on her property to extend our garden and asked only to be remembered with some melons. We will miss our visits with her.

Memories

Kathy was a neighbor and a friend. She was always out walking her dog in the neighborhood and rarely missed a day even through her illness. She had a beautiful garden and spent happy hours tending it with her dog at her side. She will be missed in our neighborhood.
